Nursing Home Negligence / Wrongful Death

In a tragic case of gross neglect a woman who was only a temporary resident of a Central Florida nursing home suffered a fall that resulted in her death. In a period of 4 days she fell repeatedly. The final fall resulted in an obvious subdural hematoma (brain injury) and despite repeated request from the family, the staff of the facility failed to transfer her to a hospital or follow established procedures for head injuries. This 81-year-old grandmother finally became comatose the day after the fall and was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead as a result of the internal bleeding. The defendants who owned the nursing home filed for bankruptcy, but after showing the numerous violations of the victims’ resident rights, Attorney Letty Marques, on behalf of the estate of the resident, obtained a settlement of $900,000.00

Battery / Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress

In a case that is all too common, Letty sued on behalf of a woman whose live-in boyfriend had abused her for years. During one of these attacks he beat her so badly, he broke both her eye bones and both sides of her jaw. A jury awarded her 1.2 million dollars in compensatory damages. Letty has been selling off his property to pay the damages.

Premises Liability

Attorney Letty Marques sued on behalf of a lady who tripped and fell in a badly maintained parking lot. As a result of the fall she fractured her ankle at the joint. Letty recently completed a case for the widow of a truly remarkable man who had been a quadrapalegic for over 60 years. He had broken his leg and an independent nursing company was retained to care for him. The nurses failed to turn him properly and he developed such horrific bed sores that he eventually succumbed to heart failure. Several defendants were sued and on the eve of trial settled the case for a confidential amount in the high six figures.

Automobile Accident

Letty Marques obtained a 500,000 settlement for a 17 year who was badly injured in a car accident. The young man went underneath an 18 wheeler who had stopped in the middle of the road and failed to put out any warning signals. The trucking company defended by saying the young man should have seen the truck and stopped, but an accident reconstruction expert helped establish that there was insufficient time to avoid the collision. After his deposition was taken, the defendants chose to settle.

Nursing Home Abuse

Letty Marques secured a very favorable settlement of a claim against a nursing home whose employee physically assaulted our client. We were able to uncover evidence of repeated abuse that forced the nursing home to admit responsibility.
